Ellen was born in Monticello, New York, in May 1947, and the Catskills were her home for the majority of her lifetime. A graduate of Monticello High School, she earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and began her career as an elementary school teacher, teaching second grade in the Monticello public school district. Ellen later changed careers and started her own business, a jewelry store at the Villa Roma Hotel in Callicoon, NY, appropriately named Ellen’s Choice, where she showcased her flair for fashion and acumen for retail sales. She later seamlessly transitioned to other positions in retail sales, first as a top-notch salesperson at the St. John Knits boutique at the company’s Woodbury Commons outlet store and then, after she moved to Hackensack, to the Nordstrom store at the Garden State Plaza shopping center in Paramus, NJ, a position she held until she retired in early 2023.
Ellen will forever be remembered for her generosity and caring ways. She was respected and loved by many, both those she knew during her days in the Catskills and others whom she met later in life, including dear colleagues and friends she made over more than a decade living in New Jersey, first in Hackensack and, since last April, in Summit.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Golnick) Guzzinati, Laurie’s husband Michele Guzzinati and two beautiful granddaughters, Giulia and Gabriella Guzzinati, all of Summit, NJ; and her brother, Martin Wasser and sister-in-law Bonnie (Goldner) Wasser of New York, NY. She is preceded in death by Manny Golnick (d. 2011), father to Laurie. Ellen was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 1pm at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039. The funeral service will also be available for viewing via livestream. Cremation will follow, with Ellen’s final remains to be placed at the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah Mausoleum in Paramus, NJ at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ellen's memory can be made to the American Heart Association, the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad or to a charity of one’s choice.
