

Erwin L Herbert of Livingston, NJ, died on January 2nd, 2025. He was born on December 27th 1925 in Brooklyn NY. He was raised in Elizabeth NJ, attending Thomas Jefferson High School. While there, he made all state band, playing the trumpet.
He left high school in early 1943 to enlist in the army air corp. He served his country overseas in WWII as a tail gunner on a B17 Bomber; stationed in Foggia Italy.
Upon his return, he completed high school through the GED program at the Pingry school in Hillside NJ. He attended college at Lowell Technical institute (UMass Lowell), earning a degree in Textile Engineering.
He married his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Geschwint in 1956, settling in Elizabeth NJ. Here they had two sons; Richard & Daniel. He started a business with two partners in 1961, where he worked until 2018, manufacturing machines for the labeling & packaging industries. In 1968 he moved to Livingston, staying in the same house for 56 years until his passing.
Erwin was very inquisitive; always thinking. He enjoyed summers at the NJ shore, spending time with family & friends, playing cards, tinkering in his cellar, fixing things, & travel.
He was a thoughtful & generous man who received joy through acts of kindness to others.
He is survived by his sons Richard (Miriam) & Daniel (Sara), grandchildren Hannah, Jeremy (Amriyah) & Jackson, and great grandson Adam
The funeral service will be on Sunday, January 5th at 1PM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd, Livingston, New Jersey 07039. The family will be receiving guests from 12:15pm to 12:45P. The burial will follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 189 Gill Lane, Iselin, NJ 08830.
