Gladys Schechter, born on June 1st 1933 in Newark, New Jersey to Helen and Samuel Levy passed away on July 15th. Gladys married Selwyn on June 7th, 1953 and they had a wonderful marriage until his death on January 13th, 2007. They traveled the country and the world together and emphasized the importance of family, education and culture.
Gladys was an amazing homemaker who had special talents. She was an excellent cook, baker, and hostess of holidays. She knit beautifully for her children and grandchildren. She was a completely self taught expert in antiques especially French cameo glass. Selwyn and Gladys had so much joy collecting and finding treasures wherever they went.
Her generosity was apparent to all who knew her.
She leaves behind her daughter Ina Drew (Howard), son Marc Schechter (Barbara), and daughter Dara (Jim Flynn) as well as her grandchildren Sarah, Alexander, Joshua, Adam, Krysta, Olivia and Rachel. Gladys also had five great-grandchildren, Elle, Jack, Lilah, Evan and Adeline.
She also loved her beloved toy poodle and companion Cleo.
We treasure her memory.
A graveside service for Gladys will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Dr, Woodbridge Township, NJ 07095.
