Born on August 3, 1934 to Marion and Irving Silver, he lived his early childhood in South Orange, NJ. He often reminisced by telling stories about his days at Marshall Elementary and Columbia High School. Harvey continued his higher education at Lafayette College, Jefferson Medical School and concluded with his residency in Internal Medicine. His diagnostic skills along with loving and caring bedside manner, were embraced by his beloved patients during his 40 years of private practice in West Orange, NJ.
He often said the love of his life was his wife, Maureen (nee Seiler) and said he was the luckiest man to have her as his partner. They spent almost 57 years married, residing in the same home in Short Hills for 54 years. Raising two children, Ian and Judy, along with 3 dogs, Penny, Dutchy and Ginger, he felt that his life was complete.
Besides his family and medicine, Harvey was well known for his fanatical undying love for the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Team. From the first pitch to the last, he would cheer them on in both good and bad seasons. His childhood heroes were Stan “the Man” Musial and Bob Gibson. Not often tongue tied, he was speechless when he met both of them in person as an adult. He often was quoted as saying, “Baseball is not just a game, it’s life!”
Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Marion and Irving Silver, his sister, Susan Drill and husband Seymour, and his son, Ian L. Silver, M.D. Surviving are his wife, Maureen S. Silver, his daughter Judy Sica and husband, Tom Sica, and their children, Ryan and Eric, of Upper Saddle River, NJ. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
