Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Harvey Weintraub, of Livingston passed away on October 31, 2022 at the age of 93. Harvey was born in Providence, R.I. the son of Lena (Melamut) and Joseph Weintraub. The youngest of three children, with older sisters, Shirley and Rose.
Harvey had a full, remarkable life and career. He graduated as a pharmacist from the Rhode Island College of Pharmacy. Shortly after graduation, he got engaged to Marta Derer, the love of his life who he was married to for almost 70 beautiful years.
Life as a retail pharmacist was not for him and he joined the corporate ranks. Starting out as a pharmaceutical sales representative and rapidly climbing the corporate ladder to the highest levels of executive leadership at the Schering-Plough Company, where he worked for 50 years. He loved his work and the adventures it brought, from world travel, to providing important expert testimony before Congress.
Harvey was a natural leader who never sought office, but whom others called upon. He served as a Board member for Temple Beth Shalom, Men’s Club President for the synagogue, a member of the Board of Directors for Passaic General Hospital, Commodore for the Garden State Yacht Club, and most recently as an Executive Board member for his condo association.
Harvey was admired, not only for his prodigious intellect and work ethic, but more importantly for his kindness, generosity, and mentorship. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Steven. He is survived by his cherished wife of nearly 70 years, Marta, his son Alan (Betty), daughter in law Sandee, grandchildren Robert (Natalie), Jon, Justin and Lia Weintraub, as well as two great grandchildren, Vivian and Stevie Weintraub.
