Helene Schwartz (85) of Monroe Township passed away on October 12, 2019, after a long and valiant battle against cancer. She was the only child and beloved daughter of Laurence and Bernadine Silver. Her father was an attorney in Manhattan, her mother a chemistry teacher.
Helene was born in Jersey City and moved to Manhattan where she graduated from Julia Richmond High School. After earning her Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design, Helene began her career as a textile designer. After raising her family in Wayne, NJ, Helene became an art teacher in Paterson, NJ.
After retiring from teaching, she moved to Monroe Township where she enjoyed many wonderful years and great friendships at Greenbrier at Whittingham. She enjoyed swimming, playing bridge, dancing, tennis, mornings with friends at the Bagel Bazaar, Princeton University and donating time at animal shelters. She also spent many wonderful hours paper-crafting with her daughter-in-law Barbara.
Helene was very active in the Princeton University community where she served as First Vice President of the Executive Committee of the Davis International Center, Mentor for International Students and Scholars and head of the community auditing committee.
Helene was also a life member of Hadassah.
Helene is survived by her sons and two grandchildren, Michael of Austin Texas and his significant other Lisa. Her son Douglas and wife Barbara of Wayne, NJ and their sons Justin and Gregory.
