A most glamorous, wise, classy, highly intuitive and kind person, she was often sought out for her sage wisdom and great advice. A true "class act" known for putting the needs of others before herself, she adored her two children, Lori Weiss (Jacobs) and Todd Nathan, as well as her husband, Alfred. She treasured her time with her grandchildren, Madison Rose and Taylor Jay Weiss, and Reagan Jean and Cailin Rose Jacobs, regaling in their life journeys as they blossomed into successful young adults. Jean is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Alfred Jacobs, her parents, Amelia and John Mulcahy, a brother, John Mulcahy, two sisters, Mae Anderson and Bernice Sanok, as well as her beloved son and granddaughter, Todd Nathan Jacobs and Madison Rose Weiss. She is survived by her sister, Barbara O'Dell.
Jean was born in Newark, New Jersey on July 6, 1929 to very modest means but always spoke of the amount of love present among her four siblings as they worked together to support each other. She enjoyed dancing on roller skates, and sporting the couture fashion her mother created for her. A model managed by the Walter Thornton Agency, as well as John Robert Powers, brought her acclaim and to beauty pageants often reigning within the top three contestants. One fateful pageant she was introduced to her husband to be, Alfred. As a guest judge, he was smitten by her smile and beauty immediately. After dating for a time, Al proposed, and Jean converted to Judaism after a year of study, quite unique for the times. They were married in 1958, and went on to enjoy a beautiful marriage, residing in Stamford, Connecticut. As Al climbed the corporate ladder, Jean was his "right hand man" always supporting him. An avid swimmer and tennis player, she enjoyed time at the Newfield Swim Club, and lending a hand at school as her children grew. A bit later in life, Jean returned to the workplace as an administrator in the Human Resources department of Clairol Corporation.
Following their daughter after marriage and Todd in medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, Al and Jean moved to Voorhees, New Jersey into the home of their dreams. They enjoyed their life there as they made close friends of their neighbors participating in many social activities, the Gourmet Club among their favorites. Entertaining was their passion and they accomplished it with great aplomb. They loved having their kids and grandchildren visit, and swelled with happiness as they would swim and play in their beautiful backyard. A member of Playa Linda in Aruba, they enjoyed many years with family and friends.
They gained a daughter-in-law, Johanna, and son-in-law, Ronald. Jean and Al always spoke of their gratefulness to see both their children married creating lives and families of their own.
Jean adored all things crystal, a love she acquired from a young age as she would pass a crystal shop on the way to work. She became a collector of Swarovski and housed her many pieces in a custom made cabinet Ron, an Architect, designed for her.
Eventually, Jean and Al relocated to Regency Homes in Monroe Township and participated in an active resort lifestyle. Jean was a member of the Red Hats, and often wrote articles for the Regency Reporter regarding their monthly events. She was quite creative and loved crafting, going to plays and the myriad of shows Regency offered. An Eagles, Giants and New England Patriots fan, she loved her football and watched excitedly. Jean and Al were fortunate to have lifelong friends in the area, and enjoyed seeing them on a regular basis.
Eventually, Jean relocated to Fairfield to be closer to her daughter and loved it. Her optimism and bright outlook towards life will be missed beyond measure. She will be treasured as the great gift she was, and will be carried in our hearts forever. We love you Mom.
Funeral services and Shiva for Jean will be private.
