Joan Arlene Lieberman passed away on October 20, 2024 at the age of 59 from complications due to ovarian cancer which she fought for over six years with courage, dignity, and resilience. She also became a source of strength, guidance and support for others battling the disease. For those of us who loved her deeply, there are no words to describe the loss. Passionate, lover of life, world traveler, athlete, funny, loyal, enthusiastic cook, avid tennis player, and feminist, Joan was a loving partner, aunt, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and devoted friend. She was the ultimate connector of friends all over the world, an empathetic listener and guide to so many who loved her.
Joan received her BA from The University of Michigan and a JD from Boston University School of Law where she was a Note Editor for the American Journal of Law and Medicine. She spent 16 years as a commercial attorney and dispute resolution expert at law firms in the US. She was also head of legal at a start-up technology firm in Paris where she furthered her love of the country and French language. Until recently, she worked at Resources Global Professional for over 17 years where she was hired to expand the legal services practice in the New York area. Joan was a brilliant and tireless advocate for both colleagues and friends alike.
Joan grew up in North Caldwell, New Jersey, but resided for most of her adult life in Brooklyn, NY. Her home away from home was Fire Island. She always felt most at home by the Atlantic Ocean and the Long Island Sound.
Joan is survived by her parents Phyllis and Phil Lieberman, brother Mark, sister-in-law, Angela, brother-in law-Mitchel, nieces Rachel Rose, Gabrielle and Lia, nephew Drew, and special friend and companion, Charles Dietzgen. She was predeceased by her sister, Beth Mund.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, 11am at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd, Livingston, NJ 07039. The service will also be livestreamed. Burial to follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.
