

Born in Jersey City, NJ to Jacob and Beatrice Davis Glaser. Leonard was the beloved husband of Helene (Nathan) for 61 wonderful years. Devoted father of Robyn Glazer and her husband Bruce of Boynton Beach, FL, Caryn Cohen and her husband Barry of Marblehead, MA and June Schechner and her husband Michael of Short Hills, NJ. He was the loving grandfather of Bryan and Marni Goldstein, Matthew (fiancé Barbara), Jason (fiancé Emily) and Lauren (fiancé Samuel) Cohen and MayaBea, Ruby and Eli Schechner. Len attended Lincoln High School and graduated from Jersey Preparatory School in 1949. He graduated from Brown University in 1953, where he was a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, the wrestling team and ROTC. Upon graduation, he entered Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI and specialized in Naval Communications. After several brief assignments, he was reassigned to the USS Northampton where he served as a signal officer and then promoted to Lieutenant. Eventually, he became the Radio Officer and Admiral’s Communication Aide. At the end of his enlistment, he returned to New Jersey to work in the family retail furniture business, eventually opening his own store in Freehold, NJ. His next transition was into industrial real estate until his retirement.
Leonard enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, building model trains, traveling, attending cultural events, discussing current events and being active with charitable organizations. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral services at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at 11:30 am. Burial immediately following at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Shiva will be held at his former residence Sunday 6-9 pm, Monday and Tuesday 1-3 pm and 7-9 pm, with services at 7:30 pm each night.
