Dr. Lillian Brunell, respected clinical psychologist and adored wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, April 7, 2019, with her devoted husband Karl by her side.
Lillian was born in New York on January 6, 1926. She attended City College where she earned a degree in Psychology. She married Karl in 1947. She and Karl raised two daughters, Merrilea and Hilary, in Livingston, New Jersey.
Lillian was chief of psychology at the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove. She later earned a Psyh. D. at Rutgers University and opened a private practice in West Orange, New Jersey. Among her many professional accomplishments were the book she coauthored on Multi Modal treatment techniques and the Peterson prize that was awarded to her in 2002 for distinguished contributions in the field of psychology.
Lillian will be missed by her loving family members including husband Karl, her daughters, Merrilea Brunell and Hilary Monaco; by her sons-in-law, Jeff Brutman and Larry Monaco; by her grandchildren, Matthew Monaco, David Brunell Brutman, Michael Monaco and Rachel Brunell Brutman; by Matthew's wife Kaitlyn; and by her three great grandchildren, Max, Murphy and Miley.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at 1:00PM at the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ. Interment will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham, NJ.
