Michael was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Freeport, Long Island. He was married to Gail (Hertz) and then lived in West Paterson until they moved to West Caldwell for the past 47 years. Michael worked in the garment district until the last few years as vice president of the dress division for HMS Productions,
He is survived by his wife Gail for 51 years, his sons Jason and Jared, his daughter-in-laws Meredyth and Rachel, his grandchildren, Emily, Zachary, Sasha and Hayes, and his brother, Kevin Root.
