

Born in June 1941 to Ida and Ben Kogan, Richard grew up in the Bronx. Throughout his life he loved being with his family and extended family more than anything else. He also found great pleasure in helping young people with their academic or business careers, which he did often.
Richard attended City College of New York and earned an MBA from New York University. Richard served in the Army and Army Reserves. He was CEO and President of Schering-Plough Corporation where he was employed for 20 years. He was a member of many corporate boards including the Colgate-Palmolive Company and the Bank of New York. He was a trustee and Chairman of the Board of Saint Barnabas Medical Center. He also served on the board of trustees of RWJBarnabas Health. He was a life trustee of New York University and also a member of the Council of Foreign Relations.
He is survived by his wife, brother, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
A funeral service for Richard will be held Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 10:00am at Temple B’nai Abraham, 300 E Northfield Rd, Livingston, NJ 07039. Services can be streamed at https://tbanj.livecontrol.tv/.
Following the service there will be a private family interment at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemetery at 735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652 and then a private shiva for family and close friends from 3-5pm and from 6:30-8:30pm at the home of Susan Kogan.
Family, friends, and community members close to Richard and the Kogan family can join shiva at the home of Susan Kogan at the following times: Friday 1:00 - 3:30 pm, Saturday 5:30 - 8:30 pm, Sunday 1:00 - 3:00 pm & 5:30 - 8:30 pm, and Monday 1:00 - 3:30 pm.
Masks are encouraged at both the funeral and at shiva.
