

Robert “Bob” Berkin, aged 94, of West Orange, NJ, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Born in Bayonne, NJ, he was the son of the late Louis and Fanny Berkin. Bob spent his childhood in Bayonne, attended Bayonne High School, and earned an AB in Psychology from Rutgers University in Newark, NJ. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal.
Bob enjoyed a successful career in sales, working for various distributors of packaging, foodservice, and paper goods, primarily serving restaurants and medical facilities.
Bob was a passionate sports fan, especially of the New York Knicks, New York Yankees, and New York Giants, and later followed college teams at the University of Michigan and University of Wisconsin, where his grandchildren attended. An avid tennis and platform tennis (now known as paddle) player, he was a competitive doubles player with a formidable lefty serve.
He had a deep love for travel, visiting many countries in Europe, and enjoyed cruising, sightseeing, and the Caribbean. A history buff, particularly focused on World War II, Bob read extensively on the topic, watched numerous films, and continued to take courses on the war well into his retirement. Known for his witty and dry sense of humor, Bob maintained a sharp mind and keen awareness of history, politics, and current events until his final days.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Carol, his devoted children Michael Berkin (Amy) and Andria Schneiderman (Freddie), and his adored grandchildren Lily, Drew, Chloe, and Kayla. He was predeceased by his brother William Berkin and sister Ida Stein.
The family will be receiving guests for Robert on Sunday, July 14, 2024 from 10:15 AM to 10:45 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd, Livingston, New Jersey 07039, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM.
