Ruby P. Schrimmer

Born in the Bronx on December 9, 1935, she lived for over 45 years in Old Saybrook, CT, and then retired to Livingston. A Hunter College graduate majoring in psychology and education, Ruby received her master's degree in special education from Southern Connecticut State College. She greatly enjoyed over 30 years as a third grade teacher in Old Saybrook, with concurrent roles as the district's math supervisor, president of her teacher's union, and receiver of Teacher of the Year.

Following her "retirement" Ruby taught English to immigrants and relished her role as a Hebrew School Teacher. Ruby and her husband Peter celebrated their 54 years of marriage with a joyful vow renewal in 2007. The next year Ruby and Peter relocated to New Jersey to be closer to family, where a new life was created. Ruby became an enthusiastic volunteer in Metrowest JFS's "Listen to the Children" elementary school program, and was an active participant in the Emanuel/Sinai's choir, weekly Torah study, and Lunch'N'Learn. Following the 2011 loss of her devoted husband, Ruby became a rigorous bridge/canasta player, symphony attendee, puzzle-solver, needlepointer, and driver for friends. Shortly before her death Ruby created a high school environmental scholarship in honor of her husband.

In addition to her uncommon imprint, she leaves her son, Jeffrey Schrimmer; daughter, Gail Schrimmer; son-in-law, David Little, and grandchildren, Myles and Bonnie Little. She is survived by her siblings Glenda Rogers, Sylvia Cardines, Linda and Steve Schwager, Gary and Patti Polonetsky, William and Thea Schrimmer, and many beloved family members, friends, and former students.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of NY, NY and the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care/VNA HG.
