

Born on October 23, 1935, in Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of George Matthews and Addie Purcell (Matthews).
On Veterans Day in November 1953, Liz met Bruce Butler of Denver, Colorado. They married on February 19, 1955, and soon after, they moved to Denver, where they built a life together. This year, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
A devoted wife and loving mother, Liz dedicated herself to her family. She and Bruce shared a lifelong love of boating, spending many cherished moments on the water. At home, she was an avid gardener and a talented cook, known for her generosity and the thoughtful gifts she loved to give.
Her memory will be forever treasured by her daughters, Debra (Michael) Thomas, Evelyn Butler, the late Theresa Butler Puninske, and Elaine (Philip) Beaupied. She was a proud grandmother to Scott Thomas, Paul (Vanessa) Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Robert (Nicole) Thomas, Brian (Catie) Puninske, Kevin (Hannah) Puninske, Amy (Brandon) Speagle, and John Beaupied, as well as a loving great-grandmother to Cole Thomas, Grant Thomas, and Sloan Thomas.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Glen Eden Memorial Park, 35667 Eight Mile Rd, Livonia, MI 48152, in the main mausoleum chapel beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.
Liz will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
