Anthony "Tony" Alden Kasper, age 87, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Tony was born in Detroit in 1938 to Anthony and Julanne Kasper. He was baptized at St. Florian’s Parish in Hamtramck and attended school at St. David’s in Detroit. When his family moved to Grosse Pointe, Tony attended school at St. Paul’s on the Lake. Tony attended the newly opened Austin Catholic High School in Detroit and was part of the first graduating class in 1956. After graduation, Tony would follow in his father’s footsteps and attend the University of Detroit. Tony’s college journey would be interrupted when he joined the US Army Reserve in 1962 and was based at Fort Knox, Kentucky. That same year, on February 17th, Tony would marry his beloved wife Joyce at Assumption BVM parish and was married for 58 wonderful years. Tony and Joyce would eventually make their home in Livonia, Michigan, in 1966 and have two sons, Timothy and Thomas. Anthony finished his college journey in 1979 and graduated from Madonna University with a degree in Computer Science. Tony worked for Chrysler for 32 years at various sites, including Wyoming, Export, Warren Office, Highland Park, Auburn Hills, and Plymouth Road Engineering. He retired from Jeep Truck Engineering as a Specifications and Releasing Manager in 2007.
Tony is preceded in death by his wife Joyce (2020) and is survived by his sons Timothy (Gina), Thomas (Allison), and his grandchildren Ashley, Andrew, and AnnMarie.
Tony loved life, and he cherished his family. He loved being a father to his sons and cherished being a proud grandpa. He was very involved in his sons' lives, including serving as a Cub Scout WEBELOS leader for Pack 271 at St. Michael’s in Livonia. Tony would also serve as the secretary for the Livonia Stevenson High School Band Booster Club for many years. Later, Tony was very involved in his grandchildren’s lives. He regularly attended their school activities at St. Edith and later sporting events at Stevenson High School. He also attended soccer games for his youngest granddaughter. Tony would also support his grandson while earning his Boy Scout Eagle rank, and attended scout ceremonies, service projects, and supported many, many fundraisers! Family traditions were very important to Tony, and he was very involved in keeping our Polish family holiday traditions going after his wife Joyce passed away. With the help of his sons and their families, Tony kept the tradition of making pierogi for Christmas going at his house every year, along with Christmas Eve dinners, Easter dinners, and Thanksgiving. Tony loved and cherished all gatherings at his house. Being surrounded by his friends and family brought him peace and true happiness.
Tony was a history buff, loved traveling, loved the arts, and was active in the car and toy train hobby. Tony believed that people should experience as much as they can in life and continued to have adventures with his family, whether it was a trip to the Grand Canyon, a jaunt to Traverse City, a Saturday antiquing, or a trip to the Train shop until illness would prevent him from walking. He passed on his love and appreciation of all kinds of music and the arts to his sons and his grandchildren. He loved our country and took his family on vacation throughout the USA. He loved museums and history and cherished all the family outings to Henry Ford and Greenfield Village. He was passionate about classic cars and toy trains and was very active in his hobbies throughout his retirement. He loved attending car museums, car shows, being a member of the Mustang owners club, and attending various train shows. He was very proud of the large train layout he built in his retirement
Tony was a practicing Catholic who believed in the sacraments, the afterlife, and passed his faith on to his family. He believed life was truly a gift and a blessing and lived every day to the fullest. He struggled with serious health issues since he was 42 years old, and yet he never complained, never felt sorry for himself, and never, ever gave up. His optimism and his faith in God carried him. In his last two weeks of life, when he was weak and in pain, he persistently continued with physical therapy - always looking forward, always taking advantage of the blessing of another day. Even in the end, Tony served as an inspiration to his family and showed us with dignity and faith what is truly important.
