Anton Hassan, 76, passed away while recovering from a head injury at Chelsea Hospital. Born in Ramallah, Palestine, Anton was the youngest of five children. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Jeffrey (Melissa), Michael (Mandy), and Randy (Kimberly), his brother Emil Hassan, sister Basima Ayoub, and his cherished grandchildren: Anton, Frederick, Mira, Jaden, Jasmyn, Laila, Julian, and Harris.
After arriving in the United States, Anton attended Schoolcraft College for two years before transferring and earning a degree in pharmacy from Wayne State University. In 1974, he married Laila, and together they built a life in Livonia, Michigan, before settling in Farmington Hills, where they raised their family.
Anton will be remembered for his kind and uplifting spirit, his infectious sense of humor, and his belief in the importance of laughter. He saw humor as a vital part of life, always quick to share a joke or a lighthearted moment to brighten someone's day. His ability to make others laugh was as remarkable as his ability to connect with people. Whether family, friends, or work acquaintances, Anton touched the lives of so many, always offering a listening ear or a warm word of encouragement. His sons often heard from others about how deeply their father was loved and how important he had been in their lives. His positivity was contagious, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. From Anton, we learned that life should be lived with optimism, no matter the circumstances.
As a pharmacy owner, Anton exemplified a commitment to honesty and integrity. He always believed that it was possible to build a thriving business through hard work and doing things the right way. He built strong relationships with his customers, earning their loyalty over the years. Anton wasn’t afraid to find new ways to improve his store; whether optimizing business terms with distributors or investing in new remodeling for the retail space. He had an intuitive mind for business and an unmatched work ethic. Anton sold his store in 1999 and moved on to St. John’s Outpatient Pharmacy, where he retired after 18 years.
In his later years, Anton’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Their faces lit up as they would run to get hugs and kisses from him. His love for them was palpable, each sharing a special connection with their "Sido." He took immense pride in watching his family grow and guiding his sons in raising their own families. His values and legacy will undoubtedly continue through future generations.
Baba, your presence in our lives is irreplaceable, and each passing day will deepen our sense of loss. You were a loving husband to mom and an ideal father to us. We love you and will hold you forever in our hearts. May your memory be eternal.
A funeral in state for Anton will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Basilica of St Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 18100 Merriman Rd, Livonia, Michigan 48152, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
