Arthur Walter Sumeracki was born on December 19, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to Arthur Anthony and Charlotte Sumeracki (nee’ Ostrenga). He was one of five children. Arthur passed away peacefully in his Plymouth, Michigan home, with his family by his side, on May 21, 2025, at the age of 82. Arthur was under the gentle care of his family and Angela Hospice.
Arthur was the beloved husband of the late Patricia “Patti” Sumeracki until she passed away in 2019. Loving father of Arthur (Vicki) Sumeracki, Kristen (Tony) West, Rebecca (Michael) Gray, and Benjamin Sumeracki. Dear grandfather of Julia Husby, Anthony West, Sophia Husby, and Henry Gray. Brother of the late Gerald Sumeracki, Steve (Pam) Sumeracki, Karen Sumeracki, and Noreen (Ken) Freebairn.
Arthur proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserves and the Air National Guard of Michigan, where he developed a sense of duty and camaraderie that stayed with him throughout his life. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1970. Following the military, Arthur worked as a Union Electrician for Local 58 and retired from Ford Motor Company after a long and happy career.
Arthur was the quintessential "Mr. Fix-It." A true craftsman, he dedicated countless hours to remodeling his cherished family home, always envisioning new ways to enhance its charm. However, his greatest passion lay in restoring classic cars, particularly his pride and joy, a stunning 1965 Mustang Fastback. This award-winning beauty was not just a vehicle; it was a testament to Arthur’s dedication and love for craftsmanship.
Arthur loved to swim, embracing every opportunity to enjoy the sun and stay active. He also enjoyed cooking and was known for bringing friends and family together around the dinner table, where laughter and good food were always guaranteed.
What truly set Arthur apart, however, was his ability to connect with people. He had a gift for striking up conversations with strangers. His warm smile and quick wit could brighten anyone’s day, and he never missed an opportunity to crack a joke, leaving a trail of laughter wherever he went.
Arthur will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in every conversation, every meal shared, and every muscle car that graces the road.
