

Ben Andrew Miller, Jr. died March 22, 2022, at the age of 87. Born July 10, 1934, in the city of Detroit, he was the only son of Ben Andrew Miller, Sr. and Helen Elizabeth (Hueneman) Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Helen Elizabeth Miller, Katherine Ann Green, and Marjorie Lou Curtis.
A 1952 graduate of Detroit Southeastern High School, he went on to attend Wittenberg College in Springfield, Ohio. He graduated in 1956 and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. At Wittenberg, he met the love of his life, Doris Ann Steffen. They were married on August 20, 1955. In addition to Doris, his wife of sixty-six years, Ben is survived by their three children, The Rt. Rev. Steven Andrew Miller (Cindy), Beth Ann Garnsey (Alan), and Jeffrey Allan Miller (Cathy), six grandchildren Marc Whitney Garnsey (Shanna), Bryan Thomas Garnsey, Heather Ann Rodak (Dan), Rebecca Lauren Miller, Haley Marie Miller, Ben Andrew Miller, III and two great grandchildren.
Ben spent his entire working career with General Motors, first as a Tool and Die maker and then in the Standards Department at Chevrolet Spring and Bumper, Livonia. He was then transferred to the Team Study Division at the GM Technical Center. His last assignment was on the New Car Project which eventually became the Saturn Motor Corporation. He as a member of the Society of Industrial Engineers.
In retirement, he lived for a time on Kiawah Island, South Carolina where he and Doris were active in the Sea Turtle Rescue Project and Lutheran Social Services. Upon returning to Michigan, Ben was a volunteer with the Travelers Aid Society of Metropolitan Airport at Detroit Wayne County Airport. In 2010 he received the Airport Volunteer Recognition Award. He was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Livonia where he was a member of the choir and an occasional soloist. Services are scheduled for May 20, 2022, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church 30650 Six Mile Rd, Livonia, MI at noon. A visitation will precede the service beginning at 10am.
