He was the beloved husband of Jeanne (St. Holmes) Ross for over 72 cherished years. Bill was the loving father of Holly (Stan) Michelcavage, Dawn Ross, Jeff (Amy) Ross, and Chris (Linda) Ross, and the proud grandfather of Bethany (Scott) Wheat, Kevin (Lauren) Michelcavage, Bryant (Stefhanie) Ross, Troy Ross, Garret (Taylor) Ross, Brandon (Sandra Schultz) Ross, Andrew (Laura) Ross, and Bailey (Matt Tchida) Ross. He was also blessed with many great-grandchildren: Raelynn, Lucas, Brooks, Harper, Braven, Kaia, Reign, Fable, Sage, Jackson, Connor, Parker, Sawyer, Gracyn, and Serenity, each of whom lit up his world in their own way.
Bill is also remembered by his brothers Dillard (Virginia) Ross and Donald (Valerie) Ellis. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Ethel Ross, stepfather, Paul Ellis, and his siblings Bette Armstrong, Brandon Ross, and Linda Spooner.
Bill had a true love for sports—especially baseball. Even though he didn’t play himself, he rarely missed a Detroit Tigers game and loved cheering them on, often with family nearby. Whether it was a regular season game or a tense ninth inning, Bill enjoyed every moment spent watching the sport he loved.
He also found peace in the outdoors. Bill spent many seasons hunting quail and pheasants, enjoying the quiet of the land and the tradition of the hunt. He appreciated simple pleasures—good conversation, a well-paced game, time spent outside, and moments shared with the people he loved. Bill enjoyed participating in the family hobby of humor. He didn’t say much but when he delivered a punchline it was always a gem.
Bill was a longtime member of Westland Free Methodist Church, where he built lasting friendships and lived out his faith in steady, humble ways.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
