Caterina Patricia Dominici was born in Detroit Michigan on December 2, 1962 to Amerigo Dominici and Fredesvinda Fritzes Guzman. Cathy, as she was known then, attended St. Andrew School in Detroit before continuing her education at Wayne State University where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology.
Cat dedicated her career to cancer research working as the communication and volunteer service coordinator for the Karmanos Hospice Program. She worked passionately doing a little of everything for the program, including managing communications and the volunteers, creating several videos and starting several programs. Caterina dedicated her life to helping people, being an advocate for families affected by cancer and spreading the message of cancer research.
Cat was a very creative person and in her free time enjoyed all aspects of the arts. She was always singing and her love for the piano will never be forgotten. Her taste in music was very broad and eclectic from classical to rock to country to jazz she loved all types, even naming her cat Motley, after Motley Crue. In her youth Cat participated in Flamenco Dancing, but never loss that desire or passion for dance.
She also loved being involved in the theater and did everything from the front of the house work to helping paint several sets.
She was a very tech savvy person, and frequently spent free moments playing “Angry Birds”. But she also enjoyed the simpler things, like reading a good book, just like her father, or watching a romantic, feel good classic movie.
Cat moved through life with no fears and lived every moment to the fullest. She had a child like quality to her with her happy, goofy attitude and wicked sense of humor. She will always be remembered as one of the happiest people around..
Above all else Cat will always be remembered as a wonderful, charismatic woman who always gave 100 %, whether that was through her passion for cancer research or helping her family and friends. One of her most endearing qualities was her tell it like it is, no filter, no bias attitude. She was someone who friends and family could always turn to for advice and guidance. She filled their hearts with joy knowledge and wisdom and will forever be missed, but never forgotten.
Cat leaves behind her loving parents Fredesvinda and Amerigo, her cherished brother Alejandro, her dear nephew Anthony Maynarich and beloved nieces Vivienne (Scott Smith) Rodriguez and Ana (Nicolas) van Deth, her dog Killian and countless friends and colleagues.
She is preceded in death by her sister MariaElena Maynarich and brother Alberto.
