Doris was born in Highland Park in 1928 to her parents, George and Christina Miles, and grew up in Detroit. She was creative, faithful, joyful and optimistic about life. She met George Rand at age 17 and they fell in love and married soon after. Together they raised 4 children. Doris came to know Jesus as her Savior at age 24 and became a prayer warrior remembering each member of her family daily. She also became active in church and introduced her children to Jesus. Doris enjoyed doing office work and acted as Sunday School Secretary and Church Clerk for many years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and wrote many fun skits for church socials, the ultimate being a mock opera in which everyone wore a wig and sang silly lyrics to real opera music.
Doris found pleasure in sewing, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and learning new things like drawing and calligraphy. She loved being informed about current events, reading two newspapers a day and sharing her knowledge with her children. Doris enjoyed writing letters and was a pen pal to soldiers during multiple wars and with several people from Ireland. Doris was a faithful and supportive wife to George for 65 years until he passed away in 2011.
After she lost George, Doris met Bill Pike, also widowed, at church, and they married and enjoyed over 10 happy years together before he passed on in 2024.
Doris was the beloved mother of William, Larry (Cherlyn), Margaret, and Mary Anne Plano; Loving Grandmother to Jeffrey (Amy) and Jennifer Davidson (Mark); and Great Grandmother to Jeffrey II and Jake.
