Dan was the beloved husband of 59 years to Louise Marie Woodruff, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and devotion. He was a loving father to Holly (Scott) Aikens and Scott (Janelle) Woodruff and a proud and adoring grandpa to Campbell Scott Woodruff, Ella Danielle Aikens, Emma Marie Aikens, and Charlotte Miller Woodruff. Dan was also a dear brother to Kenneth “Woody” (Margaret) Woodruff.
Dan lived a life rooted in kindness and an appreciation for the simple joys around him. He had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and was very involved with the American Brittney Rescue. Dan generously volunteered his time rescuing dogs, coordinating transports, and fostering many along the way—opening his home and heart to dogs in need. Some of those foster dogs became permanent companions, a testament to his compassion and big heart.
He enjoyed golfing and appreciating both the challenge of the game and the camaraderie it brought. Dan also found joy in bird hunting and had a special appreciation for the outdoors, where he felt most at peace. One of his favorite creative pastimes was making gourd birdhouses, a hobby that blended his craftsmanship with his love of nature and wildlife. Watching his Purple Martins return every year brought him a great deal of satisfaction and enjoyment.
Above all else, Dan cherished time spent with his family. His most treasured memories were made at the lake in Port Austin, where laughter, relaxation, and togetherness filled the days in the house that he built and continued to expand for the future of the family. Those moments by the water will remain forever in the hearts of family and friends who shared them with him.
