Evelyn was born in Detroit, Michigan. The first child of John Kasmer and Marie (Raniszewski) Kasmer, Evelyn attended St Margaret Mary Catholic elementary school. Prior to graduating from high school, she started working at her father’s retail business in 1933 and continued working there until 1974 taking time off to raise four sons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, her son Robert, and her three siblings Dolores Alaimo, John Kasmer, and Virginia Osborn. The highlights of Evelyn’s life, though, were her four sons – surviving sons are Gary (Lorraine) of Farmington Hills, Lester (Cynthia) of Charlottesville, Va., Kenneth (Stephanie) of Brownstown - and daughter-in-law Shirley Berlin of Grand Blanc. Particularly joyous times were watching her grandchildren – Kevin, Karen, Kristopher, Michelle, Mark, and Rebecca; and great grandchildren – Connor, Nicholas, Alexandria, Cassandra, Thomas, and Samantha - grow up.
Evelyn loved baking especially for her “boys” as they were growing up. German Chocolate Cake and Pineapple Upside down cake were her favorites. She became an avid reader in her later years. Reading every John Grisham novel as soon as it arrived in bookstores.
Special thanks to Angela Hospice of Livonia for their loving care.
At her request, Evelyn was cremated. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 10 am with gathering beginning at 9:30am at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N Haggerty Rd, Plymouth, MI 48170.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Angela Hospice or St Kenneth Catholic Church.
