Frank George Caruana, born in Detroit on July 17, 1944 to Mary and Charles Caruana passed away on Saturday, June 14th. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 48 years, Donna, and his youngest brother, Lawrence.
Frank is survived by his siblings, Rose, Joe, Carmen, Louie, and Jeannie and his only son, Don, his daughter-in-law Stacey, as well as his only granddaughter, Clarice.
Frank’s parents emigrated from Malta and he was always proud of his Maltese heritage, sharing many Maltese words with his family and even passing on his love of pastizzi to Don and Clarice.
He didn’t finish high school but instead went to work on the assembly line at Ford. Unsatisfied there, he went to night school for electronics after his long shifts on the line where he would come home and have Donna pick metal shavings out of his eyes. He used his new knowledge to get a job working with a security and alarm company and quickly established himself as one of the best technicians around. Soon he started his own company and his reputation was so great that national manufacturers would even refer people to him. After growing the company for 20 years, he sold it and retired.
After retirement, he eventually moved to a place on the water in Adrian with Donna where they had some wonderful times and many sleepovers from their princess, Clarice. Frank was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and soon after suddenly lost Donna in 2012. Instead of being lost, he kept moving and soon met Mary Kendrick, who spent over 10 years with him, showing him that he could love and be loved again. Her love was an important part of what kept him going through all those years and the progression of Parkinson’s.
He was a brilliant man and a tinkerer - a man of many talents and an original DIY guy.
Through many trials in life, he always had a warm heart and open arms for others. He loved his dogs and most of all his family. And he was loved by all that knew him. He will be dearly missed by all.
Frank’s family will receive friends on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 4pm until the time of his Memorial Service at 5 pm. Immediately following the service, Frank’s family extends a welcome to friends to share memories over a meal at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd. (east of I-275 and Newburgh) in Livonia.
