Gary Douglas Walters

Gary Douglas Walters of Redford, Michigan passed away on Thursday, August 24th at the age of 81. He was born on January 2, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan where he grew up. Gary graduated from Berkley High School in 1960 before joining the Airforce for 4 years. He later worked as a supervisor at Ford Motor Company Transmission Plant in Livonia, Michigan for 38 years.

Gary enjoyed playing cards online, sending chain emails, bowling in 3 leagues throughout the year, golf every week in the summer, hunting, eating Russian tea cakes, drinking Chivas Regal One, lovingly picking on his grandchildren, and spending time at Leon’s with his beloved wife and Leon’s family while his phone would play “Who Let The Dogs Out”.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Violent (Hutchins), and father, Douglas, grandson, Jeffrey Groves, and many other beloved family members.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia (Vandervennet) Walters, Children: Debbie (Walters) Groves, Gary (Christine) Walters, Dianne (Jeff) Laslett, Siblings: Carol Goodson, Cathy Bier, Jerry Walters, Grandkids: Jessica (Andrew) Frede, Sabryna Groves, Baxter Groves, Erin Walters, Amanda Groves, Douglas Walters, Jeffrey Laslett, and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering for Gary on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.

Interment to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
