AVIS DE DÉCÈS

George Andrew Rogers

10 octobre 192820 mars 2020

George Andrew Rogers, age 91, passed peacefully, March 20, 2020. He was born on October 10, 1928, in Pontiac, MI, the son of Earl Dixon and Mary Ellen (Trudeau) Rogers. George married Delma (Del) Rains, in Pontiac, MI on May 21, 1955. He is survived by his wife of 64 years and children, Keith (Dorothy) Rogers of York, SC, Lori (Don) Cheshure of Washington, MI, and Julie (Jen) Rogers of Livonia, MI. Also surviving are grandchildren, Nadia Abou-Karr, Ali Abou-Karr, Rami (Amy Esplain) Abou-Karr, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister and brother in law, Jeanne and Richard French, as well as Del’s siblings; Docia (Dale/Bill) Rolfe/Wallace, Samuel Lee (Margaret) Rains, and Dorie (John) Rorich. George was an Electrician’s Mate (EM3) in the US Navy during WWII. He served aboard the USS Pine Island in the Pacific and on various islands, including Guam, where he manned shore patrol. After returning home, he began his career as a mechanic. He was a master auto mechanic and could build or fix anything. His Harley Davidson was his first true love until he met Del in 1954. He built and raced cars and motorcycles on the dirt tracks of the region in the 1950s. He was a member of the Upside Down Club (if you flipped your car racing, you belonged). George loved cars, but he loved his wife, even more, selling his 1932 Chevy Coupe to take her on a dream vacation to Aruba in the 1970s. George spent his whole career working with cars and in dealerships retiring from Team Management as Director of Fixed Operations for mega car dealer and friend Al Serra. George was a hard worker and loved his family with everything he had, but his gadgets and technology held a dear place in his heart. He will sorely miss his tools, computer, laptop, tablet, and iPhone. He had a great sense of humor and always had a smile on his face. George was an avid reader and could devour a book on his tablet every day. His amazing positive outlook on life brought joy and contentment to strangers and friends. George and Del made their home in Waterford, MI, for 60 years. Together they belonged to a dance club, bowling leagues, and had a large circle of close friends. George was a devoted and prayerful man. He was a 60 year member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Waterford, where he served on the Vestry numerous times. George and Del relocated to Livonia five years ago and began new friendships in their senior communities, Marycrest Heights and Oakmont, and worshipped at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Livonia. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. Special thanks to the incredible, caring staff of the VA, Ann Arbor. A memorial service will take place at a later date with interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly MI.
