Janet Salah

Janet Salah, 88, a loving mother, cherished wife, and friend to all, went to be with our Lord on September 18th, 2025. As one of the founders of the Basilica of St. Mary, she was an active participant in many aspects of the church, most notably as a member of the Ladies Society, where she worked diligently on fundraising efforts. Additionally, for over 30 years, she worked as an accountant for Harvey Fink properties. She loved her job and was like a sister to all she worked with.

She enjoyed many activities, her favorite being her weekly poker games with her friends. Janet also participated in creating various art forms, including fiber and paper art. Traveling with her husband, Fred, was another activity she greatly enjoyed.

Janet is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Fred Salah, married 68 years; children Sharon (Bill) Janssen, Martha (Bill) Burkmyre, Kathy (Pat) Keegan, and Michael Salah; grandchildren Claire Janssen, Michael and Amanda Burkmyre, John and Jacob Keegan, and Andrea Salah. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Meagan Nichole Burkmyre.

Janet was a light in any room she was in, her warmth touching everyone she came into contact

with. Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and community, which will be continued by all who

loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

Janet will lie in state on Monday, September 22nd, from 6:00-8:00pm at the Basilica of St. Mary, 18200 Merriman Rd, Livonia, MI 48152. The Trisagion Prayer Service will begin at 7:30pm.

Visitation on Tuesday, September 23rd, at the Basilica of St. Mary from 10:00-11:00am. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00am. Janet will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park.
