Ken “Pop” Casey answered our LORD’S call to heaven on July 26, 2024. Aged nearly 91 when called home, he passed in his sleep during a recent stay in the hospital. Until that point, he was largely independent and self-sufficient.
He was husband for 71 years (Marguerite aka “Mike), father of 4 over 70 years (Stuart/Suzie, Larry/Kim, Scott/Ann, Jill/Elliot), Grandpa “Pop” of 11 over 43 years and great-grand Pop of 5 over 12 years. And during that time, he made sure that he had a unique relationship with each one of "his family” Making sure that everyone knew they were loved without boundaries.
And that gift, to connect on an individual level, extended to all he encountered. With his trademark caring smile, hearty laugh, and ability to make others laugh, he was always approachable and intuitively invited conversation with his full attention while engaging on almost any topic.
Pop was gifted in so many ways: pen/ink artist; Bango & ukulele player, mechanic; engineer; iconic soloist and singer, and athlete. As a soloist he could bring you to tears or to your feet in song. He was a veteran of singing the National Anthem for Detroit Tiger games for many years. As a noted fast-pitch softball pitcher, he could strike you out or brush you off the plate virtually at will.
But where he excelled was as the Patriarch of his extended family. He was a shining example of love and inclusion for his entire family; he wore his faith on his sleeve and was deeply involved at Ward Church.
While losing him is hard, we, his family, are blessed by having him for as long as we did. He set a high bar for us; and it is now up to us to follow in his legacy.
Rest easy Pop, we love you and enjoy that welcome-home hug from Jesus and Mum.
