Larry T. Yates, 78, of Farmington Hills and Eustis, Florida. Larry passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019 in Florida. Larry was born on September 6, 1941 in Detroit to Leon and Ruth (nee: Johnson) Yates, one of five children. Larry was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1962 after serving four years on the U.S.S. Leary. He met Beverly Ann Sugnet at work and they married on September 14, 1963. Together they raised three children. Larry was self-employed in the drapery manufacturing and installation business. He also retired from Hudson's/Marshall-Fields where he did drapery estimates and design. Larry loved playing poker and fishing on McKane Lake. He enjoyed following U of M football and was consistently disappointed by the Detroit Lions.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Beverly. Beloved father of Michael Yates, Brenda (Mike) Barone, and Loren Yates. Dear grandfather of Justin Yates, Matthew (Gabby) Yates, Megan Yates, Emma Barone, Owen Boekhout, Ava Boekhout and Alivia Yates. Also surviving are his sisters, Janice (Bob) Butler and Debbie Yates, and his brother, Dave (Paula) Yates. In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his brother Jimmy Hemstreet.
Viewing will be on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 3:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The funeral service begins at 6:00 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 West Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152.
