Leeanne Stenson, 87, formerly of Farmington, Michigan, peacefully departed to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 30, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on December 26, 1937, in Portland, Oregon, to Leslie and Arleta Flye. Salutatorian of her high school class in Tigard, Leeanne worked briefly at the University of Oregon Dental College in Portland before relocating to Michigan after marrying John F. Stenson, Jr. in 1956.
A devoted wife and loving mother of four, Leeanne was very supportive of her children’s activities at school and church, and in scouting, sports and the community. She relished her role as a homemaker, often mentioning how blessed she was to be in that role and was a cherished ‘neighborhood mom’ to many.
She was a faithful, long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church (Farmington Hills, MI), singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Bible studies, chairing the Education Committee, and involving herself in many other aspects of church life. Leeanne helped initiate a neighborhood Bible study that gathered for years and was a devoted deliverer of Meals on Wheels. While she seldom spoke of it, she developed a number of one-on-one ministries, providing loving care to those in need around her. One could not find a more faithful and humble servant of our Lord, always putting others above herself.
Leeanne loved reading, going for walks, solving crossword puzzles, and treasured her daily devotional time. She was a gifted conversationalist who could make a forever-friend in minutes. A nature enthusiast, she loved watching birds and any 'critter' she came across, frequently commenting in awe about all the wonders of creation.
Leeanne and John became “snowbirds,” dividing their seasons between Michigan and a home in Fort Myers, Florida. There they enjoyed many social, church and recreational activities, including golf – of which she would lightly boast of making her prized hole-in-one! She recently moved back to Michigan to be closer to her family.
Leeanne was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, parents, in-laws John F. & Mabel Stenson, Sr., and brothers Keith Flye and Macil Flye. She is survived by sister Lynelle Isch, brother Isaac Love, children Sherman (Tamera) Stenson, Eric (Kristina) Stenson, David (Michelle) Stenson, and Velinda (Heidi) Stenson, seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorials be made to Leeanne’s favorite charity, Penrickton Center for Blind Children found online or at (734) 946-7500.
