She was born on September 13, 1939, to Joseph and Angeline Palumbo in Detroit, Michigan. With parents of Italian and Sicilian descent, Lorraine grew up with rich traditions and large family gatherings centered around homemade meals. Her sister and many cousins became her lifelong friends.
Lorraine was a very talented student and loved to learn. Immediately after graduating from Detroit Cody High School in 1957, she began her 38-year career with the Wayne County Road Commission. It was there she would meet the love of her life, a handsome Irishman, Tim Doyle. They were married on June 6, 1964. The most exciting chapter of their lives was when they welcomed their daughter, Erin Eileen. However, the real fun began when Lorraine became a Grandmother, a role she truly cherished. Her retirement years were spent babysitting, attending recitals, school plays, countless sporting events, and anything else her grandchildren were involved in.
Lorraine loved to play cards, especially pinochle. She played monthly with her cousins for 40 years, then continued in multiple card clubs later in life. She loved casinos and enjoyed trips to Vegas. She also enjoyed several trips to the East Coast with her sisters-in-law.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tim Doyle, her sister, Angeline Gougherty, and her sister-in-laws Mary (Jim) Fisher, Nora (Ed) Kinary, and Sharon (Pete) Muller.
Those treasuring Lorraine's memory include her daughter Erin (Joe) Urso, her grandchildren Tim (Ally) Urso, Jenna (Geordon) Carter, Joey Urso, two precious new great-grandchildren, Liam and Bella, and her wonderful sister-in-law Patricia Doyle, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Lorraine lived gently and loved deeply. She was so loved and will be greatly missed.
