Marion was born in Forme, Italy in 1922. She traveled with her mother and brother to America in 1929 to rejoin her father Antonio. They resided in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and relocated to Detroit in 1941. She worked several jobs in downtown Detroit before moving onto Packard Motor Co. where she spent 13 years as a bookkeeper. There she met her husband of 37 years John Sobczak. She returned to the work force after raising her children joining J. L. Hudson in 1983.
Cherished mother of Angela Wiseman and Diane (Greg) Pochmara. Proud grandmother of Matthew (Maddie) Pochmara and Daniel Pochmara, and adoring great-grandmother of little Emmilene Pochmara.
Marion is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband John, her parents, Antonio and Emilia Valente, her brothers Mario and John Valente, and dear great-grandson Donovan Pochmara.
Marion was the heart of her home — a gifted homemaker whose talents were as abundant as her love. She had a lifelong passion for sharing her Italian recipes and traditions with family and friends. Her hands were rarely idle; whether she was mending, quilting, or trying a new craft project, Marion found joy in making things beautiful and useful. Whether it was quilting, crocheting or even recently trying a watercolor painting class.
She loved tending her garden and took great pride in watching them bloom and thrive.
More than anything, Marion loved time spent with family. Whether it was celebrating a holiday or enjoying a quiet afternoon visit. She was happiest when surrounded by those she loved.
Marion with her husband John enjoyed many wonderful trips to Hawaii to spend time with her daughter. They loved exploring the islands and its' tropical beauty.
Then later Marion went on many adventures including her grandchildren Matt and Dan. Everything from a dude ranch in northern Michigan to a Disney cruise and the parks.
While recuperating these past few months was difficult, making new friends at this stage of her life was an unexpected and wonderful blessing.
A visitation will be held in her honor on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM.
Marion will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 17100 Van Dyke Ave, Detroit, Michigan.
She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, creativity, and quiet strength — a woman whose gentle spirit touched everyone she met. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Marion’s memory.
