Melba is preceded in death by her husband Kenyon Fillmore, parents Cleamon and Christine Stockard, and granddaughter Ashley Fillmore.
She is survived by her sister Revera Foster, sons Brian (Laura) Fillmore, and Daniel (Lisa) Fillmore, grandchildren Brittany (Brian) Stoeckel, Lindsay (Jeffery) Van Nieulande, Courtney (Michael) Holliday, Melissa (Ian) Price, Kelsey (Chris) Pearce, Chad (Julia) Fillmore, Aaron (Emma) Fillmore, and Vanessa Fillmore. Melba is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, eleven nieces and nephews, and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Born in Waynesboro, Tennessee, Melba moved to Michigan in her early years and remained a life-long resident. She trusted Christ as her Savior, and was baptized, at age ten. Throughout her life she was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Melba was a long-time member of Temple Baptist Church, Farmington Hills Baptist Church, and currently, Grace Baptist Church. Her faith was the foundation of her life.
Melba’s work history included a variety of employers and roles. She served as the executive secretary to the president of Yamaha Musical Products. She worked in the trust department of Manufacturers Bank (now Comerica) for many years before retiring.
She enjoyed participating in Bible studies, church activities and time with friends. More than anything she enjoyed time with her family. Annual trips to Florida to visit Revera, trips out west to spend time with Brian’s family, and holidays and special events with Dan’s family, were very important to her.
Melba battled cancer with spirit and determination. She displayed evidence of her faith and looked forward to her homegoing.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The memorial service for Melba will be held Friday, September 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Both will take place at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 W. Six Mile Rd, Livonia, Michigan, 48152.
