Penny Mirchev passed away peacefully on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the age of 76. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Thomas, her two children Kim (Todd) and Tina, and the love of her life, her grandson Keenan. She is also survived by her beloved godchildren Nicole, Megan, Fabian and James, many nieces and nephews and was known as Teta to many. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Christos, Fotis, and Philip.
Penny was born October 16, 1944 in Nivici, Greece, the daughter of Todor and Dinka Yankopoulos. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 9. She became a cosmetologist, managed salons both in Windsor and Detroit and had a successful business of her own for many years. Penny married Tom Mirchev in September, 1968 in Dearborn and soon after had two daughters.
She was very involved in the St. Clement Orthodox Church family, through which she made lifelong friends. Penny also loved Macedonian dancing. After performing with a professional Macedonian dance group in Windsor in her 20's, her love of dancing brought her to teach all the Macedonian kids at St. Clement how to dance horos.
Penny was the epicenter of the family, both close and extended. She was happiest surrounded by friends and family. To know her was to love her. Many would go to her for advice and a little Greek coffee. She will be greatly missed by all.
Family will receive friends Monday 3-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia.
