Rexford Albert Dawson Jr., 84, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at St. Mary Mercy Hospital, Livonia, Michigan. Rex was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 30, 1935 to Rexford A. Dawson Sr. and Katherine Dawson.
Rex was a 1953 graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. From there he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business from Michigan State University.
Rex met Arlene in 1962 while they both worked at Sylvania Electric. They married on November 23, 1963. Together they raised their 3 children in Livonia where he served as a Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America. Rex was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Livonia, Michigan where he served in multiple capacities.
Mr. Dawson is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Arlene; three children, Richard (Christine) Dawson, Janet (Paul) Knight and Steven (Angela) Dawson; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Tony) Gwin, Kimberly Dawson, Heather Dawson, Nicole Knight, Gregory Knight, Logan Dawson, Bradley Withenshaw and Brittany Withenshaw. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth (Virginia) Dawson, Sr.
In light of the disruption caused by the coronavirus outbreak, cremation services have been held privately. A memorial celebration of life will be held at a later date.
