Richard James Conner

Age 77, of Ada, MI; formerly of Traverse City and Royal Oak, MI passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015. He was the beloved husband of many years to the late Sharron Conner and loving father to Christina (Kevin) Moeller, Julie (Tadas) Balanda and Amy Conner and dear stepfather to Jennifer Richmond, Amy (Michael) Wallace, and Brian (Holly) Richmond. Richard was the brother to Patricia (Leonard) Vitchus, and uncle to 2 nieces. He was a proud, devoted Papa to his 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He graduated from Dondero High School in Royal Oak and he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. After retiring from a 37 year career for AT&T (formerly Western Electric & Ameritech) as a District Manager, Richard enjoyed being with his grandchildren, attending many school and sports events. He loved his family and friends and would always go out of his way for others. Richard was always a hard worker, even spending 9 of his retirement years as an RV resort work camper in South Haven, MI. He was well known for his chili in the annual cook-off, he enjoyed good food, great friends and conversation around a campfire. He also enjoyed fishing on Lake Michigan. Many will remember Richard for his "smiling Irish blue eyes", his favorite Marines cap, quick laugh, and his never-ending gratitude. He will always be an inspiration for his strength, hope, and positive attitude while facing a challenge and will be greatly missed by many. Please join his family on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Harry J. Will Funeral Home (37000 W Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan) for Visitation from 1-2pm with a Memorial Service beginning at 2pm.
