

Richard E. Holt, lovingly known as “Spike” to his family, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born on September 16, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, to Clyde and Agnes Holt.
Richard was the beloved husband of Geraldine “Geri” Holt, with whom he shared 45 happy years of marriage. He was a devoted and loving father to Rebecca (Greg Hastie) Holt, Katie Holt, and Alan Holt, and a cherished grandfather of Devon (Rosie) Holt. Richard was also a proud great-grandfather to Emberly and Lucy Holt.
He was a dear brother-in-law to Mary (Gerry Sal) Murphy, Maureen (Dave) Semelsberger, Michael Murphy, Brigid (Matthew) Lark, James Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Colleen Murphy and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by Rebecca’s mother, Christine; and his in-laws Daniel (Susie) Murphy and Joseph (Ingrid) Murphy.
Richard earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Wayne State University and dedicated 40 years of his life as a beloved English teacher at Stevenson High School in Livonia. He touched the lives of countless students through his passion for literature, learning, and mentorship. After retirement, he used his love for teaching to help coach Special Olympic athletes.
Outside of the classroom, Richard found joy in gardening, bowling, and being the household “handyman”. He especially treasured time spent with his family in Northern Michigan, long walks in nature, and simply being outdoors, where he felt most at peace.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 27, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home.
In Richard’s memory, donations may be made to Wayne/Westland Special Olympics.
Richard will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
