Richard Henry Plumer, age 85, of Livonia, Michigan, gracefully ended a valiant battle with cancer on May 16, 2019. Humble and thoughtful in life, he was born December 10, 1933. He graduated St. Gregory's class of 1951, before honorably serving in the U.S. Army. Dick joined his father, Henry, as a bricklayer, and for 55 years would remain an active and loyal member of Bricklayers Union Local 2. An expert-level craftsman, Dick partnered with Habitat For Humanity in his retirement years. He was instrumental in the construction of 19 houses for families in need.
A trusted ally to animals, he loved and supported the Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society, adopting only rescues. He loved a good road trip, and could often be found tinkering and creating innovative, forward-thinking solutions to everyday problems – a gift he passed down to his daughter. Dick attended as many soccer, basketball and lacrosse games as possible, rooting on his two greatest sources of pride, his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his beautiful bride of 50 years, the magnificent Marie Ford Plumer; a devoted daughter, Heather Plumer Haun; son-in-law and in spirit always and forever, Peter Haun; and his incredible grandchildren, Declan and Megan Haun. He gloriously advances toward those who have preceded him in death - his father, Henry Plumer, and mother, Gertrude Kaufman Plumer; and brothers, Bill and Roy Plumer. He is survived by brothers Henry Plumer, spouse Maud and Jim Plumer spouse Joyce.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 21 from 3:00 – 8:00 pm with a rosary at 4:00 pm. Richard will lie in state on Wednesday, May 22 at 10:00 am St. Edith Church, 15089 Newburgh Road, Livonia, MI with a funeral mass at 10:30 am.
The family respectfully requests that donations in Richard’s memory be made to his two favorite causes: The Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society or Habitat for Humanity Detroit.
