Robert “Bob” Martin, age 87, of Howell, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 30, 2025. Born on February 17, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, Bob lived a life defined by devotion—to his country, his career, and most of all, his family.
Bob met the love of his life, Kathleen, at a high school dance when he was just 14 years old. From that moment forward, the two were inseparable. They married in 1959 and shared an enduring partnership that lasted until Kathleen’s passing in 2017. Together, they raised a loving family and built a lifetime of cherished memories.
Bob proudly enlisted in the Naval Reserves at 17, later serving two years in active duty stationed in Guam. His commitment to honoring fellow veterans continued throughout his life. He was a proud member of AmVet Post 1775 and served with the Brighton VFW Honor Guard, performing rifle volleys for countless military funerals across Mid-Michigan.
Professionally, Bob dedicated over three decades of service in Human Resources for General Motors Fisher Body. He then returned to work in the same capacity for the City of Livonia. His strong work ethic and sense of purpose carried him all the way to retirement at the age of 80.
Bob’s interests were as steadfast as his character. He was an avid bowler, a crossword enthusiast, and a fan of Blackjack. But his greatest joy came from being with family and loved ones.
He is survived by his children, Brian (Beth) Martin and Michelle (Rick) Teeter; grandchildren Bradley Lewis, Jason Lewis, Rick (Eli) Teeter, and Cayenne Teeter. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen; his son, Gordon Martin; and his parents, Reinhold and Florence (née Pressler) Martin.
Bob Martin will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend. He was a man of integrity, loyalty, and quiet strength, whose legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N. Haggerty Road, Plymouth, Michigan 48170, with a period of Gathering Time from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass at 10:00 am. A burial will follow at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.
