I have memories of Roger since at least four years old.  I am now a grandmother.  He was my dad's best friend growing up and through many years as adults.  I heard the stories of when they lived in a duplex in Detroit  with their bedrooms being  in each apartment's back porch on top of one another.  They set up a system so that they could communicate with each other at night without their parents knowledge.  They would catch horse flies to glue on the wings of balsa wood model planes to see how far they would fly.  Oh, they had so many great adventures and memories together.  Roger was in my parents wedding party, and I remember at four years old having a crush on him.  Both my parents and I were at the wedding of Roger to Carol.  I sat for David and Stephen a few times.  The memories of him are many during my lifetime.  There are memories of Carol and Roger attending my parents 40th, 50th, & 60th wedding anniversary party.  That 60th was the last time I saw Roger almost 12 years ago.  My parents made it to 70 years with my father's memories no longer intact.  My father has since passed at age 92, but now I have a great picture of the two of them seeing heaven as another great adventure for them to pursue together.  I am so sorry for the loss of Roger, but know that I, my mother, & siblings have fond memories of him, and always will.

Uncle Roger, as we knew him, was a lifelong close friend of my father Richard Visger (over 70 years!). We shared times with his wife and sons throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. 
Personally, I remember spending my 15th  birthday with my father, brother and Roger and his boys, helping them move from Detroit to Livonia in the late 70’s.
He was very intelligent, interesting and friendly to our whole family, including my fathers sisters, Pat and Joan and even a few of their cousins. I remember when we were young he made an effort to listen to us and engage in good, intelligent conversation. That made us feel included and special. He also made an effort to stay in touch with my mother after my father died in 2002, up until her death in 2011. That was greatly appreciated. 
I will remember his kindness, willingness to share and friendship.

I only met my grandfather on a couple occasions, but the memories are vivid. I’ve been told that I inherited a lot his personality and quirks and from the time I spent around him, I can see that. One of my most vivid memories about him was when he and my grandmother took me to a village in Dearborn/Grand Rapids to tour a house that Thomas Edison once occupied. In the middle of the tour guide talking about the house, my grandfather commented on the wiring of the house and how it could easily start a fire. The tour guide looked surprised and commented that the house was notorious for having electrical fires. I’ll never forget his wit and attention to details. I only wish I could have spent more time getting to know him. He will sorely be missed.
