Ronald Evan Campau, age 87, of Livonia, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025. Born March 26, 1938, in Wyandotte, Michigan, Ron was the son of the late Harold and Virginia (Alexander) Campau.
Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961, where he was stationed in Korea. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home to pursue higher education, earning his bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Michigan University, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and finally an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree.
He went on to dedicate 26 years to teaching with the Livonia Public Schools, where he taught multiple grades and subjects with patience and genuine care for his students. His passion for education touched countless lives, including supporting teachers' union members by acting as the Livonia Education Association (LEA) President. He retired in 1991 after a long and rewarding career, but remained a member of multiple organizations, including the Michigan Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP).
In addition, Ron exemplified the importance of community service as he served on the City of Livonia Civil Service Commission, the Board of Trustees of the Livonia Retirement System, and was a Board Member of the Michigan Educational Credit Union.
In 1969, Ron met his future wife, Barbara Pataky, while they were neighbors in the same apartment complex. The two married in 1970 and built a beautiful life together, celebrating 55 years of marriage this year.
Ron had many interests, including the love of all sports - playing golf, cheering on the Detroit Tigers, Lions, and U of M football. He also was an avid crossword puzzle solver and interested observer of current events and the political scene.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Chad (Amanda) Campau and Julie (John) Miller; his cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle, Hannah, Evan, Emma, Carson, and Owen; and his sister, Virginia (Terry) Apkarian, and sister-in-law Betty Campau.
