Born in Jerusalem, Palestine, Salwa Ajlouny was the eldest of six siblings and a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. A survivor of the 1948 Nakba, she carried both resilience and grace throughout her life. In 1958, she embarked on a new journey, immigrating to the United States with her late husband, Fred Ajlouny. Together, they built a life in Detroit before settling in Livonia, San Jose, and eventually Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Salwa was a woman of warmth, kindness, and quiet strength. She loved deeply, and her family was the center of her world. She met life’s challenges with courage and an unshakable spirit, always finding beauty in the everyday. Her hands were rarely still—whether tending to her garden, kneading dough in the kitchen, stitching intricate tatreez, or knitting something special for a loved one. She found joy in creating, in caring, and in sharing her many gifts with those around her.
Above all, Salwa’s greatest masterpiece was the love she poured into her family. She was the devoted mother of Judy Ajlouny, Norma Hannemann, Hanan (Terry) Flood, and Gloria (Paul) Stablein. A cherished grandmother to Kristin (Eric) Moody, Ashley (Nick) Reely, Tyler (Brian Rapp) Flood, Corey (Karla Del Angel) Flood, and Xander (Lotte Reford) Flood. Her heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Sienna and Weston Moody, Pia and Gael Flood, and Rome Reely. Salwa is also survived by her dear friend Suad Ajlouny.
A funeral in state for Salwa will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at The Basillica of St Mary, 18100 Merriman Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Salwa’s legacy is one of love, strength, and generosity. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know and love her.
