Sara Elizabeth Calendine was born on April 20, 1924 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Roy and Kathryn Nicholson. Sara moved with her family to Detroit following her father's death where she went onto attend Cass Tech High School. After completing High School she worked as a Rosie the Riveter during WWII and for Michigan Bell. Together with her husband, Jerry, Sara raised her five loving children and was doting grandmother to her 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Sara was an accomplished knitter and enjoyed sharing her talents with her friends at the Thursday knitting group. Sara, an avid Tigers fan, could often be seen enjoying the game with knitting needles in hand. She was a devoted member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, where she worshiped and served for 50 plus years. She also enjoyed gardening, the Antiques Roadshow and researching her family history that included a trip to Scotland to trace her roots. For Sara, the coffee was never too hot, and the laughs were always welcome. Her smile always brought happiness to anyone near her, and the twinkle in her eye is something all her family and friends will always remember. While she will be missed greatly, moments together will be cherished for she was a blessing in the lives of many family and friends.
