Shelby was the beloved wife of the late Charles Boyd Ragland, with whom she shared 71 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family while raising their two sons: Jeff (Nora) Ragland of West Bloomfield, Michigan, and Scott (Vickie) Ragland of Canton, Michigan.
She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Jackie (Chris) Johnson, Bradford Ragland, Mark (Andrea) Ragland, Kayla (Justin) Slack, and Brennan Ragland, and the cherished great-grandmother of Emerie Slack, Carter Johnson, Hayes Ragland, Louis Johnson, Andie Slack, and Darcie Slack. Shelby was also a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in the South, Shelby carried her southern hospitality with her throughout her life. After relocating to Michigan, she attended and graduated from Eastern High School in Detroit. Once her boys were older, she began working as a Key Punch Operator at the Tank Arsenal in Warren, Michigan, where she remained until her retirement.
Shelby was well known for her traditional southern cooking, especially her famous pecan pie, which was a staple at church fellowship gatherings and holiday celebrations. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted member of the Church of Christ her entire adult life, where she especially enjoyed participating in the church’s ladies’ group activities.
She remained active throughout her life and found peace in daily walks, often walking up to four miles a day. Above all else, Shelby treasured time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, with a service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Shelby will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at White Chapel Cemetery.
Shelby Jean Ragland will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, generous heart, and the love she shared so freely with all who knew her.
