Welcomed joyously into heaven and into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on June 1, 2020 at almost 98 years old. Well done, good and faithful servant! Stan will be remembered as a kind, loving man who accepted his many challenges in life with much prayer, grace, humor, and optimism.
Stan is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Marentette, and his children: Thomas (Paula) Marentette, Kathy Spern, Brian Marentette, and Rose (Craig) Buckley. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Robert, Aaron (Elizabeth), and Brandon Marentette; Kevin (Jill) Spern, and Kelly (Kevin) Cassidy; Daniel (Katie), Jennifer, and Katie Buckley, and Caroline (Shawn) Ewasyshyn. He was also blessed with great grandchildren: Vincenzo and Giovanni Marentette, Nora Spern, Dante Ishmael, Harvey and Evelyn Buckley, and Nova Ewasyshyn.
Stan was born in Windsor, Ontario to Lena and Leo Marentette, the second and last surviving of five children, predeceased by his parents and siblings: brothers Lawrence, Douglas, and Orval and sister Jean Trepanier. He was a beloved in-law to the Meladys and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Stan was a seminarian with the Basilian priests of Windsor, Ontario for ten years until age 28, earning a degree in Divinity from the University of Windsor. He then met his sister Jean’s friend, Mary, who he often said was the love of his life, and they were married in Toronto, Ontario in 1951. Both Mary and Stan became U.S. citizens in the 1950s, settling first in Inkster and then residing for over 50 years in Livonia, Michigan, where they raised their family. Stan earned his Bachelors of Business Administration at University of Detroit and was an accountant, insurance agent, and tax preparer for over 60 years in first Detroit, then Livonia, and finally in Belleville, Michigan. He worked tirelessly during many tax seasons to give his customers superb and prompt service and was known as “Stan the Man”. He belonged to many local chambers of commerce, supporting small business owners in his area.
Stan loved his family (immediate and extended) most of all and will be remembered for his unending support. He attended many graduations, birthday parties, school events and even a few grandchildren’s weddings. He loved weddings so much! As he was being brought down the aisle at a grandchild’s wedding, he turned to his granddaughter (the bride) and thanked her for having a wedding! Needless to say, the bride worked hard to hold back joyous tears after grandpa’s greeting. Stan was well-loved by his many relatives and friends who will remember him with stories detailing his fun-loving antics, love of golf, Detroit Tigers baseball, travel, and bright socks.
Stan was also known as an early riser who enjoyed the peace and stillness of the early morning where he could read his bible, drink his coffee, and view a beautiful sunrise. It seems fitting that Stan departed this world shortly after his last beautiful early morning sunrise on June 1, 2020. We love you and will miss you, dad, husband, grandpa, great-grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. We are glad you are now free to walk, run, and celebrate your new life without hindrances. Maybe you will even enjoy a full head of hair again!
Due to the ongoing issues with the Corona Virus, the viewing and scripture service will only be attended by immediate family members Thank you for your kindness and understanding.
Please share a memory of Stan or condolences with his family at his online guestbook.
