Carol Anne Van Boxtel (nee McClelland) passed away suddenly at her home in London on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the age of 72. Beloved wife of the late Tony Van Boxtel. Loving mother of Brent (Rebecca) and Stephanie Woods.Treasured grandmother of Brynlee, Asha, Elira, and Makenna. Dear sister of Gail, Pat (Derek), Sandy, Kathy (Gordy), and Laura Leigh. She was predeceased by her father Ross, mother Estella, and siblings Bruce and Tina. Carol Anne was blessed to be a member of Tony's loving Van Boxtel family. She was stepmother to Mike, Andy (Alaina), and Jennifer (Mike) Van Boxtel. Step-grandchildren Justin (Jenna), Brandan (Mel), Kristin (Iris), Brady, Piper, Kelly, and great-step-grandchildren Kylie and Mason. Tony's siblings welcomed Carol Anne with open arms: Paul (Carol), Joe (Irma), Riny (Bea), Anne (Rob), John (Penny), and Mary Anne (Ed). Carol Anne will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members. Carol Anne was a quirky, goofy, funny, and stubborn woman with a big personality. She had no problems being straight-up and telling you exactly how she felt. Strong, feisty, and always late, she was undoubtedly hard to forget once you had the pleasure of meeting her. Carol Anne was the kind of person who everyone went to for life advice. She was great at giving guidance, was immensely reliable, and was a woman with an abundance of love to give. She always tried her best to make people feel special, even if it was something as simple as remembering your birthday or giving you a hug when you needed one. Carol Anne absolutely adored and loved her children and her grandchildren. The quickest way to make her face light up was to ask her how one of the kids was doing. Some of the grandkids' favourite things to do with grandma were: crafts, baking, building fairy gardens, creating pottery, horseback riding, walks to the pond, colouring, snuggling, giant hugs, movie night, feeding ducks, stories by candlelight, sleepovers, swimming (Asha fondly remembers grandma teaching her how to swim), camping in the backyard, and playing video games - their favourites were Farmville and Zelda. The kids would snuggle right up to grandma, comforted by her big and warm embrace while they figured out the next best moves. Remarkably patient, Grandma didn’t bat an eye when her grandkids ran amuck in her house, sparkles and flour flying everywhere! Carol Anne and the kids alike relished every second of the chaos, each face glowing with a smile stretched from ear to ear. The havoc was one of the traits we loved most dearly about Carol Anne. She never did learn that you shouldn't walk away from what you're cooking… especially with the temperature set too high! Or, that you shouldn’t try to bake a cake when you’re running short of time, but it sure was amusing to watch and tease her about. There was rarely a dull moment with Carol Anne around. An adventurous spirit, Carol Anne was always up for anything! She travelled the world with Tony and continued to explore this earth after he passed. Yoga retreats in BC and camping in a tent with Steph and Asha. Cruises with friends and family. Exploring Korea with her pottery friends. Jaunts to the horse farm with her sister Gail, to visit and care for Gwen. Carol Anne loved adventures both near and far; she never missed an opportunity to watch a snail brought to her attention by a child, or to join the grandkids on their school field trips. She wanted to do it all, living and breathing all that life had to offer, and of course laughing the entire time. She encompassed a vital energy and spirit that was simultaneously big and warm, and it was felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Carol Anne will be remembered as an active and valued member of the London Clay Art Centre. Carol Anne fell in love with both the medium and the community, putting in many hard hours to get them where they are today. She was an immensely creative person. She was always making something pretty. Whether it was sewing, making cards using her well-loved Cricut machine, or painting beautiful pictures of animals on rocks. She was an exceptionally talented and intelligent human being. Carol Anne delighted in her friendships. She had a wide range of friend groups, and somehow managed to fit it all in! She was part of a scrapbooking group, a card-making group, a poker group, a neighbourhood Mahjong group, the list is endless. Carol Anne frequently met at restaurants with her cherished friends, and spent hours on the phone sharing stories. Carol Anne never missed an opportunity to socialize with her friends, and will be earnestly remembered for her joyful energy. We will all miss her pure honesty, bountiful love, and easy laugh. She truly loved her life, and she deeply loved everyone in it. Friends are invited to join our family in celebrating Carol Anne's life at a Memorial Reception at Needham Funeral Service, 520 Dundas Street, London, on Friday, February 3. Please come any time between 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be placed with Tony at St. Peter's Cemetery in London.
