Sept. 06, 1919 - May 12, 2020

With great sadness we announce the passing of Betty Muir after a brief stay at Victoria Hospital from cancer. A celebration of her life ended on her late husband’s birthday. Beloved wife of Roy Muir deceased Sept. 23, 1989. Betty was born in Romania. At the age of 18 she immigrated to Canada. Her first stop was France where she celebrated her 18th birthday under the Eiffel Tower. For the past years her only son was her patient, devoted caregiver. Doug’s sisters wish to express great love to their dear brother for always being there for Mom. Special thank you to Pastor J. Scholz and Pastor O. Castillo for their caring devotion. Our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. David Dixon for his kind special attention. Betty so loved all her fellow parishioners of Faith Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are ongoing for immediate family. A Celebration of Life is hoped for the future. Betty was happily involved with the Byron Opti-Mrs for years and loved to dance and sing, play darts, a great cribbage player, avid card player and a real social butterfly. She was loved by many and will be missed.

I had the privilege and pleasure of spending a few meals and visits with this lovely lady. I knew that Betty enjoyed playing cribbage and as I also like to play cribbage, we decided to play a game together. I thought this will be a snap - I will wipe her out in no time, after all, she was 97, surely I could beat a 97 year old lady. Well, I have to say I think she skunked me and I was really checking her pegging to make sure there weren’t any freebies going on here. She was such a special lady and although she is now at peace, I will miss her, not because I want a rematch, I just will miss talking to her and giving her a hug. We were all so fortunate to have known her and my sympathies go to all of her family and friends. May she forever Rest In Peace.

Doug and Family,
So saddened by Betty's passing, but rejoice that she is with her Savior!
Betty was a dear friend of my mother, Geraldine Dale, and always encouraged me throughout the the years from the time I worked as Youth Worker at Mt. Olive, to a wonderful visit with her on her 100th birthday.
My deepest sympathy is extended to her family. Praying God's peace surrounds you during this time. May you find comfort in knowing Jesus Christ as your Savior, and the glorious reunion that awaits all believers!

I met Betty at Faith Lutheran Church in 2003. She was such a warm loving lady and we soon became friends. My husband Brian and I live close so we’re able to take Betty to Church on occasion as well as some special events. Betty loved her church and family. She was truly inspiring and had a great faith. She loved sharing stories and had such a zest for life. We got to know Doug and saw how he took such good care of his mom. We got to know the rest of the family for Betty’s 100th birthday. What a wonderful celebration with family and friends and Betty had every detail planned. We will miss our dear friend. She has a special place in our heart and will always be remembered with love. God bless. Rest in peace

I remember both Roy and Betty as being good friends with my Mom and Dad, Ewart and Florence Foster. She was a wonderful lady and so very nice. She would take the time to sit and talk. She also attended our Wedding in 1969. I am certain she will be sadly missed by her Family and all those grand children, great grand children and her great great grand child. I think she will have gone to a very special place.

Betty and my mom, Louise Cowell, were friends and fellow parishioners at Faith Lutheran (and prior at Mount Olive). I will always remember Betty's smile and kindness toward everyone, and a special friendship with mom. In her late 80's, Betty made a point of visiting mom in Ottawa - which was so uplifting to her in her final months. Our condolences to the Muir family, may your spirit be lifted knowing she is with her Saviour.

Dear Linda, Jennifer and family,
The Winship family met Betty thirty years ago during her visits to Kingston. We, John, Pat. Andrew and Katy enjoyed her company
along with her laughter and stories of past adventures. She was a kind, wonderful lady with a great zest for life. Betty showed interest in everyone of any age and/or background. Your Mother/ Grandmother was a gift to you and all who have met her during her remarkable life.
Please accept our most sincere condolences.
God Bless!

I first met Betty Muir when I was nine years old, and became best friends with her daughter Marilyn. As a little girl I remember how kind she was to me and always welcoming, as Marilyn and I could be quite a handful for our Moms, but Betty seemed to accept us no matter what we did. Of course we didn't tell her everything! I am so Blessed to have had both of them in my life, and happy to know they are now back to their wonderful childhood days, and their new playmate is Jesus..My heartfelt condolences to the whole family. Much Love Lyn Belliveau.

The last time I saw Betty in person was at Shaun & Sarah's wedding. She sat beside me during the dinner and I remember her being so full of life and enjoying every minute. I also looked forward to her Christmas cards that she sent me every year for many years. I feel so blessed to have known her. She was a very special lady. My deepest sympathy goes out to all the family. Love Lynn Carscallen
