Janice ‘Jan’ Nova Bearchill (Greenfield) passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2023 with her daughters and best friend by her side at University Hospital in London, Ontario. She was 91 years old.
Jan was born in Truro, Nova Scotia August 9, 1932. She was an exceptional mother, nani, sister, aunt and friend. Anyone who knew Jan felt her unconditional love and kindness.
Jan was a deeply caring and devoted lady to friends and family. She always reached out by phone, personal visit or one of her famous cards from the card lady as she was known. She was an active member of Dundas Center United Church and involved with the many programs the church offered: Good Sam Cupboard, Out of the Cold and Shut Ins. She was a pillar of the church community.
She enjoyed listening to classical music and watching her favorite teams the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays winning or losing. She had a profound love for nature and animals, especially her beloved dogs and cats she cherished throughout her life.
Jan wore many hats thru her early working life but her most important job was that of stay at home Mom to her daughters. She was a loved ‘babysitter’ to the neighborhood kids and nieces and nephews when we all lived on Belvedere Avenue at the same time. As her daughters became more independent in high school Jan became a ski school instructor at the Byron Ski Club for many years and then working the ski school desk before retiring. She really enjoyed her time at the Ski Club – her second home.
Jan’s greatest accomplishment was that of loving Nani. She cherished her time with all her grandchildren and was always interested in what they were up to.
Jan is survived by her loving children and their families; daughter Karri and her partner Greg, Karri’s daughters Michelle and her husband Tylor, Emily and her partner Ziyad, daughter Kathi and her husband Ray , their children Kelly (Kameron) and their partner Gabe and Niall and his fiancé Cara.
Loving sister to Larry Greenfield (2018), Betty-Ann Shelestynsky (George 2001) and best baby brother Fred Greenfield (Pierrette, 2018).
She will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews and their families as well as her many dear friends.
Jan’s family would like to thank Dr. Naudie and his team as well as the 9th Floor Orthopedics nursing staff for their care of Mom - Special mention to Ben and Shaimy for being there during her comfort care.
Her family asks and would greatly appreciate, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, E.V.A.H., Salt Haven or charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held Monday, October 16, 2023 from 11:00 AM at Needham Funeral Service, 520 Dundas Street, London, ON N6B 1W6. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the memorial service.
