Albert R. Boysen

Al Boysen was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 07, 1929. He was the third of five children born to Albert and Frances (Cutler) Boysen and graduated from North High School in 1947. He was employed by Dunn & Bradstreet prior to serving his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict; he served from January 1948 to May 1952. Al married his High School sweetheart, Barbara, in September 1949 and moved to California in 1950.

Upon his discharge from the service, Al remained in California and continued his career in the banking business. While working his way up to Vice President and Senior Loan Officer he became a member of the Rotary Club and the Optimist Club. He contributed to the community through many charitable projects that benefited children and those in need. Through his involvement with these charitable organizations Al got his start recruiting athletes for UCLA track and field. Soon after, he began scouting talent for their football program which he truly enjoyed (loved) and continued to do so throughout his career. People that knew Al, and his love for the UCLA football program, knew he was always following the new and upcoming talent by watching all the high schools games on TV and keeping up with their stats. In the many years as a scout he worked with some of, what Al thought were the best coaches in UCLA history; Tommy Prothro, Ducky Drake, and Dick Vermeil. Al was a member of the UCLA Alumni Association and Friends of the University. Al was a passionate golfer and a member of the Rio Hondo Golf Club and proudly displayed his Dunlop Hole-in-One trophy. He also met three presidents in his lifetime; Harry Truman in 1948 at the dedication of the Memorial Park in Omaha. He met Richard Nixon at a book signing after his presidency, and Ronald Reagan both as governor and president while attending various fundraisers. Al and his wife, Barbara, became members of New Life Community Church in 1987 and both were actively involved in the church. Al served on the Financial Committee, was an Elder and also sang in the choir. Al was a devoted husband to his wife, Barbara for 65 years. Al and Barbara have two daughters Kathryn and Carolyn, six grandchildren, Dianne, Daniel, Kristi, Mike, Melissa, and Kimberly. They also have ten great grandchildren, Ireland, Sabrina, Jake, Jaiden, Chloe, Jacob, Corey, Caylee, Conor, and Kingston. Al was loved by many and valued by all. He leaves behind not just his accomplishments but his wisdom, his experiences, and his many stories which we will all miss. Al is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Kathryn & husband Bill, Carolyn & husband Roger, six grandchildren; Dianne, Daniel, Kristi, Mike, Melissa, Kimberly, ten great grandchildren; Ireland, Sabrina, Jake, Jaiden, Chloe, Jacob, Corey, Caylee, Conor, and Kingston. His sister Dorothy, brother Bill, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, and sister Patricia. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at New Life Community Church 18800 Norwalk Blvd., Artesia CA 90701 at 2:00PM on Saturday, August 2nd.
